 Steve has decided to help the Ernst Trail by raising money through the Janus Charity Challenge as part of his participation in Ironman Lake Placid in July.
The Janus Charity Challenge is a partnership of Ironman and Janus Investments to help nonprofit organizations around the United States. Those Ironman Lake Placid participants who wish to raise funds for their favorite charity will be competing with each other to raise the most money for their nonprofit organization.
The top 30 fundraisers will receive significant funds from Janus to help with their respective missions:
First place is $10,000 for the charity
Second place is $8,000
Third place is $6,000
Fourth place is $4,000
Fifth place is $2,000
The next top 30 fundraisers will receive $750 for their respective charities.
SO…if Steve is among the top 35 fundraisers, extra money will come to the Ernst Trail group, officially known as the Recreational Trails Association, Inc.
What does this mean to you? Well…your donation could actually triple in value by helping Steve with his fundraising challenge!
Here’s how it will work:
You make a contribution in any amount to the Recreational Trails Association’s maintenance fund. This amount is matched dollar for dollar by the Tom McNally Fund. THEN, your donation may again be matched if Steve is one of the top fundraisers of the Janus Charity Challenge.
A brief word about the Tom McNally Fund…The late Tom McNally was instrumental in getting the Ernst Trail in its current shape…bridges, pavement, extensions, and more. When he passed in 2008, he left a significant amount of money in a special fund to be used for regular maintenance of the trail. Every year, The Tom McNally Fund will match dollar-for-dollar all donations to the maintenance of the trail (up to $5,000 annually).
A brief comment about Steve’s challenge…If Steve raises $5,000, that money will be matched by the Fund to become $10,000. If Steve raised $10,000, that money will only be matched by the Fund up to $5,000...making his total $15,000. HOWEVER, if he is one of the top 30 fundraisers at the Janus Charity Challenge, he could bring home more funds as noted above.
